| | | Where to buy digital video cam?? Hey!!
I want to find the cheapest place to buy either a Sony or Canon digital video cam - any tips? I tried the Mong Kok AV Center - right next to the Mong Kok MTR, and it's pretty decent, but it seems more geared for audio equipment than digital video cams - for example the model of Sony (PC-120BT) I was looking for I only found at two stores, so I'm not sure if the price wars were fully in effect there.
Thanks for any advice.

I have found that generally Mong Kok is a fairly safe place to shop if you know what you are looking for, unlike the rip off merchants in TST.
Not sure where you are from in HK you are but we bought a similar camera (PC101E) in Shatin from a little shop in Shatin Plaza, at least 2,000 cheaper than Fortress and baout the same as Mong Kok. Not sure if they do the 120BT though.

| | | Question -- do you know what your target price is? Do you want the product with or withour warrenty?
We'd brought our video camera without warrenty as the price difference was about 4K. Figured it was worth the risk as it was a highly rated model from a well known manufacturer and its been functioning flawlessly.

| | | Percival Street in Causeway Bay can be another genuine place.
I suggest you to decide which model you want to buy and then have a look at these 2 places (Mong Kok and CB).
I found prices in CB on the lower side (with warranty).

| | | Thanks for the tips, i'll try the MK street and percival as well, haven't done as much hunting around yet as I plan to.
Holy smokes know-it-all, you saved $4K? would you mind if i asked at which store, and which model? i'm pretty sure i'd be willing to take the leap and skip the warranty if it's going to save money in that amount. In MK somewhere I assume?

| | | No. Was a Chungking based dealer who basically ordered the model from the wholesaler / distributor and passed it onto us with a 2 or 3% margin.
Fortress Price - $17K
With Warrenty Price - $15K
Without Warrenty Price - $11K
This was about a year or so ago.
I'll have to dig up the name of the shop / owner. Came recommended by some Indian friends and Shri.

An even better way to save a whole crock of money is not to buy the camera. Seriously a warranty is a must because you could easily end up spending more then you saved when it goes on the blink. One thing you seemed to have overlooked is the value of your time, so spending even the next few days to squeeze out the best possible deal might seem a bit extravagant if you value your time realistically.
to bypass a lot of agro you might consider the company below who seem to supply most of the electronic shops in TST .
This might be a good place to note that I have absolutely no connection with the said establishement, and in fact detest them intensely for their success
