home is where...?

well it's time to make a decision on a residence. i need some insights from people who've been living in hk. here are the places under consideration and my concerns regarding each. would love it if you can tell me what y'all think.

1. The Royalton in Pok Fu Lam. Main concern: are there a lot of expats living there? I've been in places where we're the only foreigners and really didn't enjoy the experience. Also, are the facilites good, well maintained?

2. Chum Lak Mansion in Midlevels-- Main concern: no facilities. This scares me because we have kids. What does one do with them in the city if they are young and you don't have a pool, play area, etc? Forgive me if this sounds like I'm spoiled but I'm coming from Singaproe and we did have a lot of easy options there! So yes, spoiled.

3. Tregunther- Main concern: well, besides the weird layout, it's just more expensive than the others. Is it worth it? Any Treguntherites out there?

Thak you thank you thank you in advance for your valuable opinions!

2. Where is Chum Lak Mansion? You may want to look at renting a club membership while you are here, or perhaps your company has a corporate membership you can use.

On another note.... every single person I've met from Tregunter has irritated me. Too many newbies who would probably be mere mortals in their home countries, pretending to be almighty. (And don't get me wrong..... there are probably several more down to earth folks there)

The facilities are nice at Tregunter. You will find a lot of options at that price range... look around on gohome.com.hk

Good choice

If you have young children, it has a great club house and a playroom. Also a great playgroup if your children are below school going age.

I haven't seen the Royalton, but I've heard anything good about it. In fact, my real estate agent advised me that the construction of the building was a bit on the cheap side.

Re: Tregunter - the area is really nice - great for walks up to the Peak and easy access to Central, but it can be expensive.

I currently live in HKU's former senior staff housing in Pokfulam. The flats are large, airy, and are 100% efficient. However, the finishings are very basic, no luxury touches such as marble or moldings. Furthermore, we needed to purchase our own light fittings, washing machine, and bathroom cabinets. Most people here invest time and a little bit of money to spruce up their place to make it uniquely their own.
