| | | Wing if you honestly believe that, then, you need to stop smoking opium dude...
I've experienced 3 of those countries that were mentioned, the purity of their atmospheres, the high quality of their food produce, and massive protected area's of conserved forestry.
Statistics can be fiddled how ever way you like, HK seems to be making it up as it goes along now...
Baby Boomers, and especially Generation X will not live as long as the pre war generation of HK, with all the food tainting that goes on today, and the noxious air at street level that cannot be escaped. Life was very different 30 -60 years ago, todays elderly had the advantage of reasonably clean environment for bulk majority of their lives.
My generation is going to suffer the consequences, so will generation Y, who will bare the brunt most, due to longer exposure to foods that are pumped full of mainland chinese preservatives, and we can all see the severity of the air quality on a daily basis....

If you choose to base your opinions on gut feeling which is unsupported by any data then good luck to you, but that's not how rational people live their lives. I bet you're one of those who believes the world is a safer place because you can't take a bottle of water on an aeroplane as well, aren't you? | |

| | | Now Now... PDLM, ya muppet...
The bottled water rhetoric only effects the common people who fly commercially.... It doesnt apply to those who travel on corporate jets, in fact you can take whatever you like on board providing the CAM is informed.. You can even smoke cigars in the cabin...
Different rules apply to different sections of society, just how big brother likes it to be..
Back to topic..
Air quality, and whats breathed, does enter the blood stream, so yeah, i think when the api index here is 5 to 8 times higher than back home, only a moron would suggest that long term exposure to it, wouldnt shorten peoples life expectancy...
If anybody here is a qualified medico, I'd be interested in your qualified view/opinion about this topic...
If we were to believe PDLM, then it would be quiet safe to allow your kids to play in the garage with the car running, filling up the area with carbon monoxide...

| | | If the figures go against your gut feelings then the figures must be wrong? Could it not be that the relatively healthy diet, good medical care, perhaps some genetic influence all outweigh factors such as pollution? Not everything is a conspiracy you know. | |

| | | Was chatting to my mum last night and she was saying that they (my parents) paid for their wedding by making lead soldiers. Molten lead, painted with lead paint and no protective gear - smoked all her life too. Amazing that they are both now in their 80's and both very fit. Of my mum's 11 brothers and sisters only 1 died under 80 and that was because he drank a bottle of whisky a day, smoked cigars and spent several years in prison. | |

| | | I think it has to do with the texas-double-bacon-cheeseburger (with extra large fries) that the people in those in those 3 countries (at least in the US) inhale as their balanced-diet that is causing the low-life expectancy... coming from the US to HK i've noticed the portions are definitely smaller over here (almost 1/2 to 1/3 actually)... | |

| | | So if we all ate pure healthy food, drank whatever water it is that is supposed to be the less dangerous, didn't drink alcohol, smoke, or take any other drugs and if we lived in a totally pollution free environment (so no motorised travelling, air con, etc) what would the average life expectancy be - and would it be worth it? | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8.
