Jakarta - Denpasar (Garuda?)

Hi,

Will be in Jakarta this week and plan a short trip to Bali.

Any input on the flights between Jakarta and Denpasar (Airlines? quality? price? frequency?advance booking?) will be very much appreciated.

The only alternative seems to be a 9H train ride to Surabaya and another train ride (7H) to the extreme East part of Java, hop on a boat and finally reach Bali...not that great....

Thanks.

Hasn't it been banned from flying to the EU because of safety reasons?

Yes but what are the alternatives (aside from the 20 hours bus/train ride)?

Indeed it has. But I don't think you'll find better amongst the Indonesian carriers. The alternative would be to fly on Singapore via SIN.

Thought I would share the experience. Took several domestic Garuda Indonesia flight during the last 2 weeks (for visiting purpose while on business trip to Jakarta) and overall was very surprised.
Flew one Jakarta-Surabaya, one jakarta-Denpasar and one Denpasar-Jogya and must say that all was well:
- Plane on time
- Service was OK
- Plane was OK
.....nothing to worry much actually and it look pretty similar to any China Eastern Airlines or Dragonair flight....
