| | Extension of Dependent Visa I need to know what are the requirements for extending my wife's dependant visa as her initial dependent visa was only for one year even though on the application, she requested a longer period of time. Has anybody experienced any difficulties doing so. I was told it is simply an administrative matter as long as the sponsor declare that both are still married and the sponsor has not been away from Hong Kong for an extended period of time. Are there special forms and letters that would need to be presented. What other form of evidence is required. Does her nationality matter? Please help as her visa expire pretty soon.
Thanks for any assistance out there.

| | | Its pretty simple.. just go down with your passport / id card and the wife's documents.
As long as your visa is valid hers will be extended with no questions asked.

| | | Thanks. That was my understanding as well. However, the complication is that her initial Honh Kong dependant visa was granted because she holds a US Permanent Resident Green Card that will expire about the same time her Hong Kong dependant visa expires. As it takes normally six months to obtain a renewed US green card, I am afraid that this may pose a problem, unless the extension of her Hong Kong dependant visa is automatic. | |

| | | Never heard of a dependant visa being granted because someone had a green card. Rather than speculate about hypotheticals here .. take a walk down to Immigration and you'll find out for youself. | |

| | | I just renew my wifes dependant visa, all you need is fill (1) the application form, (2) sign a document saying that your status with your dependent is still the same, (3) sign another document that you have been in HK for the last 9 months. and the dependent visa will be extended. (Obviously your visa must be valid). | |

| | | You may already know this, but US Green Cards are presumed to be "abandoned" if the holder is overseas more than a year, absent a form being filed (which I now forget). I know a number of green card holders who jet off to Hawaii or Guam every now and then to "tag up" and keep their cards active.
