What can I say, Join the club!

Name: Hong Kong Language and Cultural Exchange Club
Type: Common Interest - Languages
Description: This club is dedicated to helping to improve our language skills through open communications, cultural exchange and interaction among members during our weekly meetings. Key languages used will be English, Mandarin, Cantonese, German & French. However we will also be delighted to interact with those who can practice other languages with us.

We meet up once a week casually (sometimes twice) and our members are typically a mix of Expatriates who are based in HK and local Hong Kongers.

Our members are people who love to share their experiences, culture and language while also improving their fluency in foreign languages in the process.

Everyone is WELCOME! (and bring your friends too!) :P

I have been having a quick peek over messages on the forum and would love to get a group together for drinks n' what not. I'm 31 and will be visiting Hong Kong in July. Get in touch if you fancy a bev or to go shopping or anything really. I'd hate to go somewhere that looks and sounds so exciting and not have the chance to get out and about with peoples, drop me an e mailand we'll summon a group together or something. Cheers, Mario

Lightbulb

this thread is pretty outdated.

I suggest signing up for a facebook account if u haven't got one yet and go have a look at the group page here:
Hong Kong Language and Cultural Exchange Club

The pictures and information there will paint you a pretty good picture... We're now hovering around 1500 members and growing rapidly.

Assuming you can't or don't know how to use facebook... I'll paste the info for the next event here for your convenience.

NOTES
-----------------------

Languages offered in the past: Cantonese, Mandarin, Shanghainese, Japanese, Indonesian, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Russian... etc.

We're looking for some dedicated teachers for all languages!

We don't know what languages are out to offer yet, but with more people showing up, we'll have more choices on the table. So if there is a language you want to share with other people or language you wish to learn from others, this is your chance.

-----------------------
LANGUAGE LEADERS
-----------------------

We need a few volunteers to be Language Leaders to lead discussions in the various languages. Feel free to volunteer yourselves by posting on the wall.

I really wanna join the group on facebook, however, why do I have to be in the HK network in order to do it? I'm and have always been in the Vancouver network, if I leave my current network and join in the HK one, I realize some of my stuffs which relate to my current network will be gone. Is there any other way that can do?

Sorry there's not that much I can do there. I decided early on after looking at other groups that it was more relevant to make it based in HK. And under Facebook's rules, you have to be in that network in order to join those groups. *Shrug*

There are many other groups out there that claim to be based on HK but are setup as "Global". Many of them have lost their relevance because more than 90% of their "members" are not in HK and would never join in any activities. Making the point of joining their groups really pointless...

We're a real group and we have run over 40 face-to-face activities and events in Hong Kong (to date) as real testaments to our claim.

You could try adding me as a friend, your facebook "feed" should let you know whenever I create events etc. However, it's not ideal.

Regards,
Gabriel
