Domain Name Registration I have a domain name registered and its first year is up soon. What does one do if one wants to "move" to another company? If I decide not to renew then does the name become free for registration immediately or is it like mobile number portability where you find the new company and they take the name from the old company?

You can transfer to a new registrar. Every registrar has a page or two on their support site with information on how their transfer systems work. Do not let your domain expire. It will most probably end up getting auctioned or sold in bulk to one of the mass domain holding outfits.

Not really ... all depends on why you want to switch. I have a number of domains with enom.com ... but again, they might not be the best one for you.

No particular reason to change it's just the Hong Kong shopper mentality in me.
