First time I've been asked if I wanted to have my account number printed on my credit card (when applying for said CC).
Said no - but, of course, they went ahead and printed it anyway...
Is this a common thing in HK - having your account number on your credit card..
From a security point of view - bad enough if someone gets hold of your CC number, expiration for nefarious purposes...but to also to be able to get your account number..?!?
Sure, anyone can get the account number off a cheque/ATM card...
Am I just being paranoid - am considering going back and asking them to reissue a card without the acct. number..
Any thoughts appreciated......

I think you're being paranoid. I don't see what anyone is going to do with the information.

I suspect what they were asking is whether you wanted a dual function Credit / ATM card. With HSBC that is an option - you can have the two separate or both on one card. For convenience I have both on one card.

Just the whole ID-theft stuff..
Believer in not giving out more info than one has to..
(And already have a separate ATM card)..

well, the only thing that ppl can do is to deposit money into your account.. so ? is that a bad thing to do ?

let's put it this way, there are nothing much anyone can do with your bank account just knowing the number. the only thing they can do is to put money into your account and accuse you of money laundering...

if money are lost from your account, then sue the bank. i'm sure u can get back what u need to get back
