Totally different experience. I found that the locals are very good in pretending to be busy and prepare to leave a quarter before they can call it a day.

Westerners often think of Asians as being busy as a bee, hard-working, loyal to the employer etc. I also had this prejudice, but that's bullocks. It might be so for Japs and Koreans though, but definitely not for Chinese.

Most of they late stayers have bad time management.. I mean come on they cant be always staying till 8pm every time...

N your earlier posts -YES they have no life... this is taking into consideration that they are unmarried, staying with their family in at 600+ sq ft home....it gets noisy and irritating so staying out is their forte...look at the streets its always packed!

beafan,

for 1) e-mail that is simply ridiculous.. wont the manager look stupid if he complain his name didn't come up first?

2) u cant submit work earlier than the average. -
never heard or seen anything like that.. and ppl who backstab you for that is just plain bitchy..

3) whoever stays work the latest is the hardest working one. i feel bad if i leave the office at 6pm. and that's after sitting at my desk doing nothing for 30 minutes. -
tell me about this one. now is 12.08 noon and i have finish my work ... another 6 hours to go .. sitting on my desk and surfing geoexpat..

* one more thing, i feel compelled to keep quiet in meeting. everyone is just so quiet. i have my opinion, but i dare not voice out to the manager,, ppl will be thinking.. what are u trying to do? trying to impress the manager,, or being apple polish?
act like other locals.. keep quiet in meeting.. feel so weak, wait till i gather my guts to voice out the next time..

1) u hv to be careful of the ORDER of ppl on your outgoing email list. like the sr. managers have to go first, middle managers go second and so on... has anybody heard of this??? apparently locals ACTUALLY CARE AND LOOK AT THAT
oh really. looks seems to be link with the ego of senior management rather than to do with business rules

face it, its human nature for most people to be petty, spiteful, back-biting, game-playing silly buggers.

aiya! I've been pushing for Tequila Tuesdays at work for years to cope.
