Stanley Ho's daughter in court Macau casino mogul Stanley Ho Hung-sun's eldest daughter appeared in Eastern Court yesterday charged with assaulting a child in a hotel last month. Jane Francis Ho, 60, was charged with assaulting Kong Sheung-chak on July 8 at the Grand Cafe in the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Wan Chai. She entered no plea and the case was adjourned to August 28.


Mother denies child abuse
An unemployed woman appeared in Eastern Court charged with ill-treating her nine-year-old daughter in her home in Causeway Bay. The woman pleaded not guilty and the trial has been set for September 24.

So hang on, the 'assault' here is that Ho stepped on the 3 year old's foot? Difficult to judge without having all the facts... but if that counts for assault, can I sue for assault with umbrellas? I seem to be just about the perfect decapitation height when walking on the pavements. Or how about suing for having my shoulders barged when I decide not to move out of the way (hmmm, maybe I would be sued too though).

A legal minefield really...

Dog bites off and swallows woman's toe
A dog bit off an elderly woman's big toe in an attack in Yuen Long. The 71-year-old, surnamed Mok, was walking her dog at about 3pm yesterday near her Shung Ching San Tsuen home when one of her neighbour's two dogs attacked. The woman kicked the dog in an attempt to drive it off, but it bit off and swallowed her big toe. She was in stable condition after receiving treatment at Tuen Mun Hospital. Her husband said the dogs had attacked the family before. The two mongrels were taken away by officers from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department last night. Danny Mok

Local businessman and husband of former actress Cherie Chung Chor-hung, Michael Chu Ka-ting, has died at the age of 53.

Chu died of cancer at the Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital a few days ago, hospital sources said.


Born in 1954 in Hong Kong, Chu was one of three sons of Shanghai-based filmmaker Chu Yuk-wah. He studied architecture in the US before returning to Hong Kong in 1977 to start a career in advertising.

Chu founded advertising firm Synergy in 1983, which was later acquired by Euro RSCG. He was known for his creativity and produced a number of award-winning TV commercials in the 1980s, including some for the watch chain store, City Chain, and HongkongBank, now HSBC (SEHK: 0005, announcements, news) . In previous interviews with the press, Chu said he loved creative work.

He maintained a low profile but had been in the media spotlight recently following rumours that he had cancer.

His wife, Cherie, 47, entered the showbiz industry as a contestant in TVB's Miss Hongkong pageant in 1979. She did not win a place, but that did not stop her rise to stardom. She was nominated for Hong Kong film awards for performances in The Story of Woo Viet (1981), Hong Kong, Hong Kong (1983) and An Autumn's Tale (1987).

She quit the film industry in 1991 after marrying Chu.

In recent years, the couple opened two upmarket furniture shops in Central.

Do you have a link for this? I found something on google news about an arrest for stealing wifi in the UK, but nothing about HK.
