BBC iPlayer Ok so the BBC has finally launched its much awaited iPlayer in its Beta form and has just completed a full 48hrs of launch without any hitches. Allows you to watch the last 7 days worth of BBC programmes on your computer. The programmes you choose to download are stored in your BBC iPlayer Library on your computer for up to 30 days. You then have up to seven days to watch them. Once you download them you don't have to be on the internet to watch them when it suits you. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayerbeta/find_out_more.shtml They are only allowing registration from users within the UK. Does anyone know anything more about when this is going to be launched globally ?

Only what has been published on their website. Wonder if UK viewers know any more. Did you register?

DB I just registered even though the application said the Beta is only available to UK users. On the form it only asked for your name and e-mail address. It would be great once its up and running fully.

You can register for sure but when you connect they check your i.p address and see its not a u.k based isp.

| Um... what gives you the impression that there's any intention of launching it outside the UK? It's a service for UK viewers who have (sort of) paid for access to the content by means of a government-enforced TV license. It should be possible, at least in theory, to get yourself on the list if you a) have access to a decent proxy in the UK, and b) run Windows XP. I have the former, I do not do the latter... | You assume that everyone in the UK pays their TV licence fees...and there are legit ways of not paying your BBC licence fees i.e. you use cable only. I very much doubt they would use the service for UK only but we have to wait and see. Pls educate me on how one can get round this using XP ? Your help much appreciated. |

I read somewhere the plan is to make it avaliable for free to UK viewers, or you can pay to view if you live outside the UK. The other option was to view for free outside of the UK, but be forced to view the advertisements as well. Cheers, Henry
