| | | Concerning Bicycling Shop Wiped under Link REIT new plan “I felt lost and confused.” around a month before, Mr. Ng, the owner of one bicycle shop in Tung Chung, receive a letter from the Link and notice him the rental termination due to “The Upgrading of Shopping Mall Image”, more importantly, in the planning, bicycle business is surely to be wiped out from all the Links shopping malls. The last day of Mr. Ng’s shop will be on the November, 2007.
With the location that the shop is convenient enough to service the residents, where also the service is necessity enough for the customers to the business. In Tung Chung, we need the bike business remains, especially to keeping their good service to the grassroots transportation.
Coming up in the 2nd of August, some renters of Fu Tung shopping center will demand a meeting with the Links REITs.
I would like to here to raise your supports in supporting the bicycle service in Tung Chung.
Your signs will give much supports to the the exisiting bicycle business in Tung Chung.
Thanks! | |

| | | That sounds like the typical attitude of destroying anything that doesn't directly serve the property developers' interests.
Bicycles are an efficient and popular means of transport around the Tung Chung area. Of course it is appropriate to have a centrally located repair shop.
Can you you post the exact wording of the notice, including the author(s) and any contact details?
Also, what is the name and address of the bicycle shop?
Let's see what we can do to help save this shop.

| | | The last thing HK needs is LESS bicycles. I wish I could ride one around for transportation, but it's just not safe here in the Mid-Levels. I used to ride a bike for up to 8 hours a day in NYC. Unfortunately, HK being the bastion of capitalism it is, there's very little chance that bike store is going to get a lease renewal.
I'd like to help in any way I can too.

Thanks! | Upgrading of shopping mall image?! Hello?! The floor that the bike shop is on is where the wet market is...how are they going to upgrade the image?? If the bike shop got a notice, surely all the other shops must have got one too then like the Indonesian shop, the underwear shop etc.
Maybe best to speak to the other shopkeepers to see whether they were served with a notice as well and see if you can put together a joint petition.
I have rented bikes from the shop and it is a nice facility to have.

| | | Thanks for your reply, Martin.
The bike is in G/F of Fu Tung Shopping called Tai Seng Bike Shop. You can contact directly with the owner, Mr. Ng for details.
For what I know, Mr. Ng, is also organizing himself the signing action trying to show proofs to the Links regarding the residents and customers' concern.
However, he was pretty confuse about the future as I mentioned. Just try to do the best he can.
I am also showing Mr. Ng on the public replies, which may helps.
Mr . JayinHongKong,
Tung Chung is a suburban area, we call it a Satellite town, where development are new and less crowd that the city we usually preceive. Biking behaviour is pretty good education in Tung Chung for we actually need this in life.
I was pretty much also like our lives in US, I used to lived in Seattle and Michigan. Good Place New York!!!
Your response is definately a help! Negotiaition with the Links are not easy, especially the small business feeling lonely negotiating and being hang out and dry.
Mr. PhotoChan,
From asking around in the shopping center, the Link is actually wanna to clean up the ground floor of Fu Tung Shopping Center -- stratgically One Group by one group. Along with Tai Seng, there are other 4 shops received the termination notice, and the others are now in chaos from the gossips and rumours.
The worst is to the bike shop where the relocation is not prepared specially because of the business nature.
Best regards,
Paul Wong
