Exclamation organised bag thefts in bars-be aware

My husband recently had his computer bag stolen in a bar on Wyndham Street. My husband was standing at the bar with his bag infront of him resting against the bar and a guy edged in to get to the bar. Thinking nothing my husband steped back - not far only one step. a few secs later the guy moved away and when my husband looked down his bag had been 'replaced' by a similar one, my husband saw his bag was gone and looked for the guy assuming he had made a mistake when he returned to find the new bag empty he realised what had happened he called the police. lucliky we cancelled all cards etc but were told by the police that this type of crime is increasing. so I just wanted to post this to make everyone aware. On this occasion CCTV showed there were two people working tgether. this is not an opportunist....

same goes for you guys who takes the cab... doesnt happen often in fact rarely i'll say but it has to someone before so...

keep ur wallet on you after you've paid the taxi driver... please do not place wallet back into your luggage etc they'll take it from the baggage when u least realises it and the receipt doesnt state the car plate or registration number which it usually does...

In relative terms it is. There's nowhere in the world that there are no thefts from bars.

PDML

Japan comes pretty close on that, people leave their coats unattended all the time in Tokyo from what I have seen (and also done, once even with my mobile phone in the pocket for a couple of hours, thought not intentionally). This even happens in some bars in Roppongi!

Not something I would recommend anyone to do though, not even in Tokyo, but people seem to do it quite a lot, though.

Thefts in discos and bars are very common.... I lost my Moblie phones twice in clubs....right infront of my group's eyes!

So horrible when something like that happens, but it's the same thing all round the world. I find HK really safe, but I ALWAYS make sure what's going on around me just like places such as New York/LA/Mexico etc and thankfully I've never had any problems. My personal mottos are never leave anything unattended, never leave anything unattached or unwatched and be wary of the person in front of you at the bar pushing in to get a drink! But then again don't be like those tourists who cling to everything and stick out.

And do be careful with your mobile phones especially in bars and restaurants. NEVER leave them on the table.
