| Expensive co-location in HK Our data centre in Wan Chai just announced they're jacking up their prices (HK$1,300/mo/1/4 rack), and a quick look around other centres appears similar. This price bump doesn't appear to include a service quality bump.
I decided to have a look around and now virtual hosting has become practical and more widespread I signed up with a host in US (linode.com) that's upto 20x faster and 10x cheaper than the new hosting price in HK.
Its crazy, we have a 2Mb SDSL that couldn't get saturated to the HK host (1.5Mb peak local, ~400Kb global), but now easily does from the other side of the world.
Apart from a select few most of the other clients at the data centre were overly ghetto configurations, grey boxes, open motherboards, etc. Unless they're crazy and like throwing money away they should leave too.
I'm currently testing mail for spam/ham ratings, hopefully being out of China it will significantly improve too.
I'm likely to try a VPS with pachosting in HK for MX backup for convenience, anyone have experience with them? |
