Blackberry, R.I.P

Am I correct in assuming that, if my Blackberry dies, I can simply remove the SIM card and stick it in another Blackberry and--viola--back in business?
My service and SIM card are out of the USA, in case that matters.
Will my calendar, notes, etc.... come with it?
I am hoping everything is stored on that SIM card or on some Blackberry server somewhere and not on some hard memory chip in the device itself.

I had to deal with a bunch of BB woes recently trying to get a HK purchased device to work with my company's US BB Enterprise Server so I actually may be able to help.

First, I believe you can set yourself up quickly, but you will need to register your new device's PIN number to the BB Internet Service or BB Enterprises Server. If BIS, then this is probably through your carrier's BB related website. If BES, then you may need your company's IT to link the PIN number to your corporate BES and give you an ID and password to connect.

I know for BES hooked up to Outlook Exchange Server, you can synch your Outlook contacts with your new blackberry. I was also able to synch contacts from Outlook on my laptop via BB Connect Desktop software. Otherwise you may be SOL if it was only saved locally. Hope that helps. I'm sure one of the techies on this site probably have some corrections to what I just said.

So, I guess the fact that we use Lotus Notes is going to add to this dilemma?
I know my SIM card is unlocked, which should work in my favor.
Maybe I should have asked if anyone knew a place in HK that could repair a Blackberry.
