That's why I was on my way to stop using hotmail.

For my situation, no one attachement I read before. Everytime, I have to request the sender to cut and paste the content in the email, and send it again to me.

Your a very experianced Techi, so have you run your own testing to validate this blog?
Having a lot of time on my hands this afternoon I read through all the comments in the link. Things stands out. Whats the basis for the test? Whats the detail of the analysis? Why is it happening ? Is it really happening or is there a flaw in the test?

Finally and more important. The " problem " is flagged but not solution or analysis of finding given.

Clever people know the answer ( not people like me ) and this guy doesn't. If its so earth shattering and major how come its " just been noticed "?

Over to you technonaughts !!

I think the rant the 'tester' opens with shows a certain level of bias against MS. From then on nothing he says can be really trusted. I have had no problem receiving emails with attachments via hotmail so I think this goes in the 'bollocks' file but I am willing to be convinced.

Am I going to validate this blog? No, because, if the guy is not telling the truth he is likely to get sued. I personally I know some of our customers to whom we send invoices via PDF to their hotmail accounts and never receive them.

Solution? The solution is microsoft's hands to fix their problem. I am aware of another email provider that loses email here in HK processing attachments for virus. It is likely that the av scanner is crashing and losing the email.

How come it just been noticed? SMTP Email does not guarantee delivery, people put up with errors and problems. With free services there are going to be problems and prefer not to waste their time to report it. It is easier to switch to one of their other 7 email accounts.

My guess that this is not a problem that applies to all hotmail but the cluster of servers that serves this user account.

Boris, Hullexie, how about my case? I never success receive any attachment from Hotmail. In the mail I receive, it indicate there was an attachment, but can't open or save it.

Now with Yahoo, no problem at all for the attachment file.

For lost mail wise, don't know, I received all my expected mail (mean I know the person will sent me a mail) from both Hotmail and Yahoo.

Or maybe I am the unlucky guy who lost Hotmail's attachment everytime.

I've no idea, I can't possibly know about your email, all I can say is that I have not had a problem ever.

Nor me. If it shows an attachment and the hyperlink takes you to the download then its a computer problem and not hotmail.

Anyway I am no IT expert as KIA and HK.com know well. My skillset lies elseway !!!

Maybe some problem with Hotmail?

So maybe there is a little battle going on betweeen the free suppliers.

Its true I have never had a problem until now.
BUT trying to send e mail to yahoo.co.uk address from hotmail is impossible. I and others can send FROM yahoo.co.uk though. This is with or without attachments.

First - delay messages
Now --
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Unable to deliver message to the following recipients, due to being unable to
connect successfully to the destination mail server.

///////@yahoo.co.uk

SPOOKY !!!
I would think in my nievety that it is Yahoo blocking.
If true. Why would that be?

MrMoo has a spectacular aura aboutMrMoo has a spectacular aura about
Yahoo has implemented greylisting according to my logs against yahoo.com.hk:

@4000000046a819502899c2bc delivery 42: deferral: (***@yahoo.com.hk)_68.142.237.182_failed_after_I_s ent_the_message./Remote_host_said:_421_Message_temporarily_deferred _-_4.16.51._Please_refer_to_http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/defer/defer-06.html/

Historically the big free email vendors didn't implement an outgoing mail queue, so if it failed to deliver the first time it would drop. Gmail implemented a queue after all the complaints about dropped mail, no idea about Yahoo or Hotmail.
