Shanghai --> Tibet , I need some help!

I'm looking for a reasonable and reliable agent to book a train ticket for Shanghai to Lhasa, as well as to arrange for a Tibet Travel Permit without making me join a group tour.

There seems to be many in Beijing, but none in Shanghai!

you could just buy a ticket at the train station and forego the agent if you don't want to get your permit at the same time.

otherwise, if you have some time, stop in Guangzhou, Xi'an, Chengdu or Golmud to get your permit there. The train's headed there anyway.

Train doesn't stop neither at Golmud nor in Chengdu. Your best deal is to do through Beijing. Permit isn't that big deal and their fax should suffice, train tickets are booked by many companies and there doesn't seem to be anything special about Tibet train.

Are you sure want to go to Sh? There's a train from Guangzhou as well.

I don't remember whether train stops in Golmud, but if it does, it's not for long, so I'm not sure you can make permit there. Lhasa trains from BJ and SH don't pass through Chengdu. I'm talking about direct trains.
