its a business what do you expect. Schnauzers are very popular in HK so this place is like a factory. This place probably supplies most of the pet shops in HK, If you buy a dog from a pet shop and see a few schnauzers in it where do you think they came from.

I know it looks terrible but what can you do, if you buy a dog then your helping the breeder, if you dont buy a dog then lots of dogs suffer, if you stop buying doesnt mean other will, their are loads of pet shops in HK where dogs are put in glass boxes under bright lights 12-14 hours a day will no chance to excerise.

Which ever way you look at dogs will suffer until we rescue them so that they can have a better life, that is why i have 3 dogs and love them to bits. I would love to have more but then I will be the suffering.

What are you talking about? It doesn't just look terrible, it IS terrible. Some of those female dogs look miserable (and one seems to be missing most of its hair!). The way to keep these unresponsible puppy factories from excessive breeding is to stop buying dogs from them or from shops who purchase from them. If they have unsold litters they are less likely to re-breed the females. If there isn't a market for the puppies the puppy mill will not make a profit and hopefully shut down its practices.

If you are going to buy a dog from a breeder, fine. Just buy from a responsible private breeder (look for breeders who only keep a hand full of dogs and breed females once a year or less) who works to improve the breed, not make a profit by turning out as many puppies as possible.

I bought my two babes from the same private breeder, they had two bitches and one dog and they were able to find homes for all but one of their pups which they kept themselves. They had all dogs living with them and treated them like their kids, a far cry from the pictures on that webiste.

They don't breed them anymore since they are now older and they didn't let their dogs start breeding until the bitches were around at least 1.5 yrs old.

I just agree that you should do a lot of research before you go to a farm/mill to purchase a pup.

You think that the locals will stop buying schnauzers just because some expats didnt like the dog breeding farm. Schnauzers are one of the most sought after dogs as they are small and fit well in HK's lack of space. Unless you can brain wash the locals or get the govt to stop these kinds of breeders then there is nothing more to say.

I agress that the mothers look terrible, maybe i shouldnt have pointed the original poster to this place but he was about to get fleeced by some petshop for nearly 10K and I bet that the dogs probably came from this place anyway, so i was just trying to help him save money. I'll have to stop helping people and just let them get ripped off as it makes me look like a bad person.

Let me ask a simple question, If you were looking to buy a dog and went to some pet shops in HK and asked the pet shop where he got his dogs from and say they actually tell you where they got it from, would you actually go and visit that place and check it out and see if the dogs were treated nicely. give me a break. It sounds like your in my industry "Social Compliance" where we go and visit factories to see if the workers are treated nicely. The original poster was about to get fleeced so i pointed him to a place thats all.

I have 3 dogs, not one of them did I pay for, all 3 I adopted them from their previous owners who gave them up as they could not take care of them anymore. I didnt even buy any dogs from that farm.

Anyways Please make up your own mind if you buy dogs from this place or not, if you do not like dog farms or breeders then dont even visit that website. My mistake for trying to help someone. Thats all i am going to say about it. Over and Out.

I would like to thank everyone for your input. I visited the place that Wtbhotia suggested and I must say that the condition of the dogs are better than they look in the website. The owner loves his dogs and treats them as if they are his kids. I had a chat with the owner and he told me that he breeds dogs because it is his passion. He is not looking to make a living out of it. The reason why some of the dogs have no hair is because the owner trimmed it so that the dogs won't get too hot in the summer. I saw two Schnauzers that I like but the owner refused to sell it to me because he says they are not ready to leave their mother yet. He seems to be a responsible guy.

There aren't that many places to buy dogs in Hong Kong. This place is definately a better place to buy a dog than a pet store.

Wtbhotia: Thank you for suggesting the dog breeder. I really appreciate your help.

Angry

If the breeder had around 100 dogs don't you think they are overbreeding the poor dogs??
It is just encouaging these people to keep breeding until the dog cannot have any more puppies and most of them just dump the dog once it is of no more use!

There are so many wonderful dogs and puppies that need a home why not save a dogs life instead of having to have a particular breed just for show?
