No Printers !

Went to print and found I have no printers installed. ALL disappeared !

Ran Norton and still same.

Went to install a printer and reported no spooler service.
Tried to start print spooler service in Services and it reports error 1068

Can't find the fix in Google so hope someone can assist to get the spooler service started so I can get to the next step and install a driver.

Running XP sp2

Trouble Shooting

Try this

Quote:
One Reason for the error "Error 1068: The Dependency Service or Group Failed To Start" can be: Changed in the path of service exe in harddisk.

Example: if service exe location is (service properties shows) :: c:\Program files\xyz\abc\my_service.exe and if we change "xyz" to "wxy" folder and try to restart the service. it will give the above error.

Fixing this issue is quite simple. I had the same issue myself and after a LOT of research, I found the following steps extremely simple and it fixes the issue immediately.

1. Go to Start > Run and type in services.msc then press Enter.

2. In the window that opens find "Print Spooler" on the right

3. Right-click "Print Spooler" and select "Properties".

4. Click on the "Recovery" tab and change all 3 drop-down boxes to "Restart The Service".

5. Make sure the 2 text boxes underneath say "1" in them.

6. Click Ok until you are back at the Services window, close it and you're good to go.

7. Go back into the properties of the "Print Spooler" tab and be sure to click Start to restart the Print Spooler service and it will restart the service immediately.
There are more trouble shooting instructions in that article if these steps don't work.

After spending a while digging through articles came across this after following the trail to the Lexbce server activation proccess

http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Lexbc...er-t30026.html

put this at the command prompt ( MSDOS saves the day again ! ) sc config spooler depend= RPCSS

Badda Bing --- not only will the print spooler accept the start but I get back all my print drivers.
Happy is the old man who beats the machine !

I think the problem occured when I was clearing out some old programs and drivers.

So much for the efficiency of the unistall through control panel of XP !!!!
