I'm trying to find out where they carry this Sony computer - VGN-U50 in HK.
This is a ' japan only ' model and usually the importers in HK will have it in stock but so far I have yet to find one that has that in stock.

To be exact, my friend has yet to find a store in the Wan Chai computer center that carries that model. The Wan Chai computer center ( next to the MTR station ) has a few stores that sells imported models aka ' water goods ' but according to my friend none of them has that model in stock.

I live in the Los Angeles area and won't be visiting HK until mid-Nov.

Any fellow gadget freak knows where I can find this computer in HK and for how much?

There is a sony import shop in Wanchai Computer Center. Look around there on the first floor. Forgotten the name, but I'm going down there on Monday / Tuesday and will check it out for you .

Unless you plan to operate in Japanese otherwise you'll face problem with drivers. Sony drivers are not downloadable and I doubt they produce the drivers in english version for JDM. Sony uses very specific driver for specific model.

Do you not mean the VAIO VGN-UX50 ?

I am in Japan right now and they only have the UX50 model from what I can see and sells for around $1500 US depending on where you go and get it.

Well it was the u50 model back then when he originally made this post!
The UX50 is now available in HK, saw them in Mongkok computer centre yesterday. retailing for around $13000 hk.

it is amazing how threads can get revived after like 3 years. 8-P

anyway these days notebooks are fairly cheap.
someone that was notebook shopping was recommending me an ASUS.. or AXUS... which i wldn't have minded myself.
but while i happened to be at windsor, ended up buying a fujitsu notebook with an AMD 1.8GHz processor. set me back 8.4k HKD.

mainly because, i do like fujitsu notebooks. the existing one i am using is quite reliable. and i was just looking at a low cost model that can serve my purpose or general usage...
