I am bringing my desktop computer to HK from the US and I was wondering if I would run into any type of voltage problems?

Make sure you power supply can handle 220V; US is 110V. Most desktop power supplies are capable of handling 100-240V input, but you never know. This rating must be written on the power supply itself, some of them have a switch (generally near the power inlet) to change between 110V and 220V. You would also need a different type of power cable.

If you can't locate the power cable, you can easily find HK$10 adapter to fit your NA-style plug into the HK-style wall outlet.

Oh, and if you may not have a voltage switch on your pc's power supply, it may just auto-detect, just make sure the input can accept 220V or not.

Same with monitor power supply - they are even more likely to be capable of both voltages as monitors have earlier history of this than actual desktops, but do check.

Are you bringing a laptop?
If so then the transformers are normally auto adaptable and you only need a plug socket adapter

If your bringing a desktop -- WHY ?
The freight charge to ship it in makes it a little non cost effective cos every day its more out of date and PC are mega cheap in HK ( if you listen to the advice on this website as to where to go )
My solution in my impending move is to transfer my hard disk into an external caddy that will operate of my laptop.
Then with the ADSL / Network router in my hand luggaget I can easily install my hard disk into an updated "BOX " in my HK office . Plug in the nework cables and hey presto or in the meantime just operate of the laptop

If for only one then The Caddy system lets you take your stuff anywhere you want.
