Red face plan to live in Gold Coast

Hi friends,

I am working now in TST east and I'm now looking for a new apartment to rent in. My friends offered me to move in Gold Coast. They say it's the best place in HK. I heard a lot about the Gold Coast and it's really a nice place but the accesibility is difficult, transportation is expensive and travel time is long. I would also like to know more facts about the Gold Coast. And another thing I would like to ask advice from you if you could enlighten me about any other place near TST that could substitute Gold Coast, costwise?

Thanks in advance,
John

3 or 4 hours to TST ?

You need to get off the drugs Travina.

It takes no more than 30 minutes to get to TST ( Canton road ) via bus.

25 minutes by private car.

Tung Chung is hardly the same kettle of fish, and if someone likes the surroundings of Castle peak bay, which is also where the Gold Coast Mall is located, they won't be too interested in Tung Chung...

Also you can get a larger apartment, with a far superior sea view from our side of the bay, and we are not in the direct flight path of runway 25L , having final approach heavy aircraft passing by every 12 minutes.

If you would like to see what its like from someone who actually lives right next door to the GC Marina ( one street away ), take a look at my photo gallery on geoexpat.

Also, $8000 per month will get you a 919ft apartment here that includes a car space, $12,000 will get you a 1400ft2 duplex top floor apartment, and you wont have to live in a 45 storey apartment building, 18 floors is about as packed as it gets.

We lived in the Gold Coast for over a year, duplex sea-view apt 1400 sqft with same area roof terrace for about 22000 HKD.........great place, but the reality is it is a bit far out, they do buses to TST etc which are not bad, takes about 30mins and the local GC Mall is OK, depends what you want, for peace and quiet and a great sea view with good space at reasonable cost its fine but getting out in HK Central at night does mean a taxi trip.

Jimmy, that had to be in the Gold Coast complex to have paid 22K, that mob will rip you blind...

There are plenty of apartments that neighbour the GC, which are substantially cheaper, hence why a large percentage of the GC complex is unlet, they are just charging silly money for them and most people are wising up to it.....

Ha Ha Jimmy you get that when you rent, happens a lot I hear, HK land lords like to try it on, especially the last 12 months....

And Travina, I appreciate you are trying to rent out your flat, thats fine, but stating that it takes 3 to 4 hours to get to TST is utter bollocks.

It takes 30 minutes on average, the actual distance is 25 - 28km lol, and its all main road 80kph freeway ...

Back to the OP topic, Take a look at The Aegean apartment complexes, there are actually two locations on Castle Peak road, AQUA Blue is another well situated complex with dynamite views, The Bellagio is another, although unlike the previous complexes that are 15 minutes walk to the GC Mall, the Bellagio would be 5 or so minutes by taxi, but it is handy to Tsuen Wan shopping malls.

wow ! a 32 inch TV, and lots of laminated MDF furniture I bet....

I have seen apartments in Caribbean coast, and they are not even remotely comparable to ours.

or do they have 15ft high ceilings in the living area's since we last saw them ? Hmm not ...

Anyway, congratulations that you rented your place out, at the rate you spammed the discussion forums " commercially" its not really a suprize...

I second Skyhook comments.

Prices are very low compare to HK Island or even Kowloon and transport is efficient (24H/24h) for central (so no need taxi trip) and from Jordan and Mongkok you have plenty of minibuses 24/24...

GC itself isn't the best around, as suggest by Skyhook, Aegean Coast is actually better value.

Years ago I lived out in So Kwun Fat (aka So Kwun Wat) in a 3 story village house that had modern decor with roof top views of both the mountains and seaview before Aegean Coast was built -
for aprrox. HK$3800/mnth, not sure if you would be able to get that rate today. Although, may be an option worth considering as tons of space and when I lived there very very quite.

I moved because the daily grind of traveling got to me as I used to either take the GC shuttle to TST (never got caught and was never asked for ID the entire time) or the mini bus to Jordan or one of the KMB buses.
