| | | Popularity of internships in Hong Kong? I'm a Hong Konger, but have studied abroad since an early age, so I'm not too familiar with the conventions here. When I ask about internships with local companies, they don't seem to offer them at all (apart from the various finance institutions.) Am I looking in the wrong places or is completing a summer internship simply not standard for Hong Kong undergraduates? | |

| | | I have a friend who is doing Intern in HK, however, he hasn't graudated yet. I think Intern in HK is just for those who are looking for work experience before they graduate. The company they worked for, if they like the person, they will try to keep them. After the student graudated, they will get hired. Those HK student normally work during summer holiday, HK SUMMER!
Are you graduated yet? I guess that if you're graduated, you can try to apply for those fresh graduated program.
Actually, I am about the same situation as you. I been studied overseas for quite a few year. Thinking of developing my career in HK after graduated!

| | | No, I'm going into my third year of uni. I guess the industries that I'm looking at don't really offer official internships... | |

| | | I'm working with two interns from hell (from the ivy league, to be accurate). No ability to meet deadlines. They seem to think that actual work is beneath them. They're supposed to help write a report but all they do is find stuff on the web and email the links, as if this is useful or impressive. After a warning, they've progressed to copying and pasting random text to word documents. Will try to have them fired today.

I'm an English & Music Major studying towards a Bachelor of Arts at a liberal arts college in the US. I would love to go into media or marketing. But I'm pretty much game for any other suggestions.

| | | Hey! I am also looking for an internship, although I only just completed my first year at university. I am an economics/mathematics major, but sadly, I couldn't find anything after searching for the last 3 months. I think it is rather hard to find a summer internship/job in HK without the proper connections (i.e. all the rich, well connected kids from my high school all got summer internships this year). I will definitely continue looking and my goal this coming school year is to land one for next year (since it might be too late now :P)!
Btw, greenietea I just noticed your post, what kind of interns are you looking for?

| | | i'm glad i seen this thread, I have just graduated from a multimedia production course in the UK and am looking at moving over to Hong Kong anytime now.
I was thinking about being an English teacher for a while but i think an internship or fresh graduate program would be ideal
Does anyone know where to begin looking or applying for these types of jobs?

Most of them have online applications, but they have rather early deadlines (i.e. March or sometimes December). They're not very applicable to what I'm studying, but they might be of use to you, fushion. Try again next year!

| | hi,
i guess it wouldn't be thathard to find media job, as there are lots of business related to media in hk i reckon. as my friend in australia, he always fly over to hk for work. i think you can start your career from it.
and being an english teacher, would depends on whether you are native english speaker, as in international school. they all look for native english speaker. if for other school, you may have to have a education diploma in order to teach in hk. i am not working or specalise in this area. i may not be correct. please check it with others.
hope that helps Quote:
