digressing a little here.

as a canadian, how do u fit in with the locals? i am a typical canadian, meaning sarcastic and laid back. sarcasm doesnt seem to work with the locals, they take me for serious. so there isnt much to laugh about with the ppl at my work.

anybody going thru the same?

Rex: Its no longer a twoonie at KFC, it went from $2 (long time ago) to $2.22, and now I think its in the ballpark of $2.89. As for Harveys, they've been slowly fading away. For those who haven't been back for awhile, last year they stopped selling breakfast altogether (no more $2.99 sunrise special), and several locations have closed. The exception to this might be the union station location in downtown Toronto.

The one thing HK certainly doesn't have are west indian restaurants ... nothing beats a nice big trini roti and some doubles. The one thing I will miss are good 'ol home bbqs.

I moved to HK 2 months ago to work in International Sales and Marketing for a Product design, development and deployment company!

So far i love my job and i love HK!

although i would kill for a nice Large Double Double from timmies! ahhhh man

beafan,

I find the people who speak english in my office will appreciate some sarcasm, i think like everything else its just gotta be quality sarcasm .. I get along pretty well with my staff, however because this Gweilo only knows about 4 words in Cantonese.. sometimes I'll feel left out when they get chatting in the lunch room.

learned something today during lunch with the folks at work - locals do u use sarcasm, but they add a swear word in the phrase. dunno if that runs true always

Subway

For those of you who miss Subway, there is one in Wanchai, on Jaffe Road close to Admiralty.... but I've to admit though, somehow it just doesn't taste the same....

Ya, really wonder when they'll open a Timmies here. Hey, even Crispy Creme got a store here... Miss my double double with a double choc, yum...

There is a subway right at Hollywood and Shelley Street under the mid-levels escalator. They go cheap on the meat and veggies so its not quite the same - but close enough.
