How to take more than 20kg by plane to HK?

Hi,

it is mentioned on my flight ticket that I'm only allowed to take 20kg luggage, anyhow...is there a possibility to take 30kg without risking to pay for it?

Thanks so much for your help!
Sandra

Airlines usually allow an extra 4-6 kg per person, but that depends on several factors; the plane's passenger load, the journey time & distance, if there is another connecting flight,..etc..

If none of the above apply,...you can always flirt with the check-in clerk...

Err .. you could also ask your travel agent to negotiate an allowance or get you some coupons. Might be simpler and more effective than giving come hither looks.

the worst to come is...they dont allow u to bring the extra kg...and then tell u to empy some stuff to get rid of the extra kg...then u are infront of their counter for a long time trying to throw stuff out..and then they end up giving u a plastic bag to throw the stuff in..and then telling u to just use the bag as an extra baggage...free of charge!

normally if they are nice enough..they will let u bring extra stuff...just that they dont want to hurt the crew working in the baggage department in the basement.due to overweight baggages...so by emptying the stuff into another bag...they usually let that by...

Another way is this....check your normal bags in at the check in up to about 20KG. Make sure you do not have your other hand carry bags visible...maybe give them to a friend. Have 2 carry on bags...one full with say 7 or 8 kg and another smaller one that you will actually carry on....

When you go to the gate the staff will probably ask you to weigh your bag as it looks heavy...you agree and they say that you must check in this heavy bag...you agree to this and they put it in the hold...

Works every time for me...and the bonus is that the second bag usually comes out first on the carousel..

Cheers,

Paul

Send the extra by excess baggage. Its quite irresponsible for passengers to attempt to bring a load beyond that allowed on board. Had a nastry experience once.. when plane was overweight.. The tail of the plane hit the runway at the moment the plane pitched for take off. Jettisonned fuel in the air for an hour before doing an emergency landing back at the same airport.

More of a responsibility issue. 20kg for check in luggage, 8kg for hand carry

must agree with the last two posts. i have done paul's trick a few times myself. BUT the last time i did, it turned out there was too much weight checked in and they had to hold half the luggage and send it on a later flight because it was dangerous to fly with so much weight. so of course our luggage came on the later flight.

it was frightening to think what would've happend if they hadn't done that. all we suffered was an inconveience but it could've been far worse.i never imagined that my little 10 kilo excess would mean anything, i figured they allow for all kinds of weight excess (plus, as a small figured passenger weighing 20 kg less than most passengers i thought it not too much to ask). go figure. will think long n hard before i do that again. unless i know i'm on a half empty flight of course!!!

...I'm so skinny, I could weigh 10 or even 20kg more...so that's not a real overweigh, if I put more into my bags instead of my belly...what do you think of THAT reflection ;-)

It's ridiculous to think that aircraft would attempt to fly overweight. Though, I can't specifically comment on some of your personal experiences, I know for a fact that all airlines have safety restrictions and follow protocol verrrry strictly, more so, since many people are on edge nowadays about traveling by air. Trying to check in excess baggage is completely at the discretion of the ground crew/check-in counter attendant. Certainly they would have some allowances that they can pass on to needy and deserving passengers.
