Ok need to put this forum to the test, got a real concern and hoping someone can give some sound advice.

I’m a freelance Product Designer from the UK, never applied for work permit before I arrived as only had an interview lined up with no definite confirmation of work. Now I’m here, employer is very keen but reluctant to apply for work permits (no idea why, maybe obvious to others) basically no longer looking hopeful with this particular company.

Love an opportunity to (legally) work in the industry here but can only afford to stay two months more. Can I look for work first and only apply for the work permit if something is confirmed? Or is it necessary to contact the director of immigration first? Applications take so long it seems I’ll have to return before I get a chance to work.

Can any one tell me if there is any hope in my situation?
