Question Safe Investment

I am not sure if this has been already discussed on this forum.

I am interested to know what are the investment options available in HK for a conservative investor who is looking to invest his idle money in a relativey safe investment to earn extra bucks.

time deposits etc?

Time deposits, government bonds (any high rated fixed-income security), your mattress (although I'd use something other than HKD to stuff it.....perhaps Euro or GBP).

But slightly less conservative are corporate bonds. There are bonds out there in USD with yiields of around 6% and they aren't seriously risky.

But you do need to be able to invest in chunks of, say, US$30k or more.

If you are looking for safe investments time deposits are good for you. However, do you want to just keep up with inflation? Best way is to diversify your portfolio. Have some money in time deposits, some in money market and income funds. That way you have liquidity as well as lower risk tolerance. Then put some money in some conservative equity funds and you will benefit from capital gains and dividends. By diversification you are able to spread out the market risk..lower your exposure and still be condservative.
