Is there a quick way to get from kennedy town to mid-levels, soho or lan kwai fong by public transport? All the routes I know to central go to Des Voeux Rd. Is there anything that goes further south (up the hill)?

I know the red minibus leaves from LKF to Kennedy Town, but it doesn't appear to go back the same way.

I've seen a couple of buses go up Smithfield Rd to Pok Fu Lam Rd, not sure the #. Once you're on Pok Fu Lam Rd, you have a few more options. The green minibuses 8, 28, 22, and i think 23 all go through Bonham Rd, Caine, LKF.

As Rani say there was no direct buses from Kennedy Town to "upper level" road at Central.

If you stay not far away from the bus terminal (at intersection of Pok Fu Lam Rd and Pokfield Rd), there have a lot of buses will pass by the "upper level" road.

Or
Red minibus to Causeway Bay that had a Chinese "UP road" sign <via Caine Rd>

Esque, If you are form Manhattan Height, you didn't have much choice.

Red Mini buses just close to your apartment was the easier and faster way. Since the place was the started point, easily you can ask the driver whether pass by Caine Rd or not.
You can just pronounce "caine lo" since cantonese have the similar pronounciation.

If you willing to change buses, as Humanbeing say the #13 green mini buses lead you to Pokfield Rd (opposite of the Pokfield Rd Bus Terminal, intersection of Pokfield Rd and Pok Fu Lam Rd), from there you have a lot of choices.

#8, 10, 10A, 10B, 11, 22, 22S, 28, 31 green mini buses can lead you to SOHO area.

#8, 10, 10A, 10B, 11, 22, 22S, 28 green mini buses can lead you to LKF area.

Most of the others buses (both mini and big bus) from Pokfield Rd will pass by the "upper level" road depends where you headed.

Just to confirm: the red buses are the ones that say "daimaru", near the same bus stops for number 5 and 10 big buses?

The ones that say Daimaru will take you to Causeway Bay. I've taken 'em before. Not what you want as they don't go up onto Pokfulam Road. I'll keep an eye out for that number 13 though. BTW, Caine in Cantonese sounds like "keen" rather than "cane."
