What is the largest amount of money you would spend on a pen?

So, here is one thing that's been bothering me for a very long time....Why in the world would anyone spend more than lets say HKD $100 for a PEN????

I see these stores every single day....Caran d'ache (which sounds like "Pencil" in Russian by the way)....Mont Blanc...etc..these places carry pens at ridiculous prices, made with Gold, Platinum, Diamonds, Rubies..etc...etc...

WHY???

Other then to be a prick and show off to your colleagues and friends about how much money you have, is there any other draw or reason??? I've had Mont Blanc pens given to me as gifts and I never found them to be a better writing instument than a cheap Bic pen.....An expensive watch I can kind of understand....there is a precision instrument and a mechanism and countless hours are put into hand crafting, and making sure the time is accurate, etc....But a PEN!!!????!!!

Someone please explain this to me!

I was very lucky to have found a Mont Blanc Meisterstuck Grand pen, was forsale in Asia Xpat brand new as an unwanted charity ball prize. Cost me $750HKD, a lot better than paying $2500 like they usually are. I have had that pen now for 5 years, and I use it every day. Love it in fact.

Now, I didnt buy the pen to show off with as such, I just always wanted a Mont Blanc pen, the price I paid was reasonable, I wouldnt have paid $2500 for it though.

It is a nice curio to have, and something I can pass onto the next generation.

We all have our pet indulgences, watches certainly are not one of mine, as I never wear one, the clock in the car and on my phone/pda suffices nicely.

I got a nice Montblanc for my 19th birthday...black precious resin with white gold. I lost it somewhere out on Long Island, NY. I have a feeling I might have lent it to someone and never got it back, but I have no idea where it went. I'd never spend that much on a pen either. I do virtually all my writing on my laptops/PDA nowadays. The pens I do carry are:

1. The one in my stylus
2. A cheap Pilot pen that actually writes smoother than the Montblanc. Go figure. Even better, the ink doesn't smudge because it dries immediately, which is a big plus for a left-handed dude like me.

50 HKD seems already expensive to me. I usually just take the one from my company...normal pen nothing special..anyway most of the time the pen is just used to sign documents not for wrtitting per se..

A pen has a kind of phallus shape right?

So the bigger, better equipped and smoother one..the more awesome you feel....

I guess that can make for an explanation.

I have a couple of nice pens, both were presents though so I didn't spend any money on them.

The main one is a Caran d'ache which is in use daily.
I prefer using a heavy pen and find my handwriting gradually deteriorates the lighter the pen gets.

I used to have a solid gold hello kitty pen but it disappeared - believed to have been stolen.

Well, I really do want to replace my Mont Blanc roller ball that I lost a few years ago. Will wait for some generous soul to give it to me as a present.

I have never bought a pen, as Mat says that's what company pens are for. I think my writing would be crap with or without an expensive pen. I have my signature on a chop and electronically anyway so that reduces the number of times I have to sign.

Sorry, that's probably the funniest thing I've heard all day! Thanks!
