depends on what you are spending. i wont check the price for a drink in bar. doesnt matter if it costs 50$ or 200$. but if i have buy a car, i will ask for the price.

i mean you can be A BIT calculated while spending but dont be parsimonic.

Sunnie, from my reading in other thread, some expat say as expat we have to spent money like a king. (I didn't mean to insult anybody, just want to know, did others expat do the same thing. Simply to know whether I am normal or not in other expat eye)

Some of my practice are

I will go to wet market to buy fruits, not from supermarket because cheaper for the same fruit and sometime you can get fresher fruit in wet market compare with supermarket.

If I having meal in restaurant, beside 10% service charge, I still will give them about 10% tipping as long as their service not too bad.

Did you all do the same thing? or how you all do? Maybe you all can quote some of your spending experiences such as funnie do.

some expat say as expat we have to spent money like a king. What does it mean by we have to??? Maybe for some shallow people

But if I do have that much money, I'd rather go and use it in a more constructive way. I'll sponsor more children from around the world or something along that line

funnie - f + s,

High appreciated.
What i understood was : erictby's post was to ask whether we need to count before we spent or not. It was not about where to spent.

Count before we spend? I guess it depends. I'm not that tight with money that I've to count every penny I have and penny pinch with groceries. But of course, if I'm going to buy an ipod or a nice bag, I'll think about it. My little rule for myself, anything more than HKD 500, I'll think about it. Before spending unless it is absolutely necessary.

I think most of the expat aren't tight with money, right?

But, while spending money, we have to look for cheaper or not? I am not mean to look for cheapest by quote the price everywhere.

From my understanding, spent like a king should be while you can get a product maybe 20% cheaper on other street, but for your convinience (or maybe laziness) you just buy the product closer to you. What will you all do?

Just to save 20 cents to go around looking for cheaper apples or veges, is just not worth my time. And no, I don't shop in wet markets. I don't even do that when I was living in Spore. Point is, some things save but some things spend. This is for everyone, regardless if you're local or expats.

One apple maybe save 20cents. But how about 10, 100,1000,etc....

If every items save a little bit, then it will be save quite a lot at the end. As I mentioned in other post under different thread, every month I can save more than HKD6000. Since my income is 5 digits, that make a big portion.

And the most important thing was I seldom hang around LKF or night spot, so I still have plenty of time to do the saving "action".

I never go everyway to quote the price but built it by experiences. Everytime more sensitive about the pricing for items that I used, make me know where to get those items while needed.

Is this a stranger behaviour?
