career advice in accounting

hello, i hav something not clear about my career, would like to have some advice.

my current job is a engineering/manufacturing related. after few years of low pay rise and limited job advancement, i am thinking to change to accounting field.

i hav a degree in engineering. to start my new career,
i am thinking to take ACCA exams at the end of this year.

however, it is uncertian if it is possible for me to find a job in accounting feild.

(i) should i start to look for job in accounting now? as i hav joined the ACCA student memebr.

(ii) what kind of firm should i target to after i pass few exams level 1 acca? my plan is to look for some commerical MNC accounting department.

(iii) what should i do/learn to boost up my chance to get employed?

thaz

Get an accounting degree, not just a certification.

i know the best to do is to get a accounting degree, but i thought the acca cert is the short cut.....

Um…I think it is the demand and supply. Hk is a finance center; a lot of finance related jobs are available here but not engineering job.

Although ACCA is highly recognized among the employers,it's also necessary to get a degree.
Btw, how can you join ACCA Scheme without accounting experience/degree? You should first apply for CAT certification.
Few papers? Part I will only give you the basics & is essential to understand accounting practices. Also note, that you can sit maximum 4 papers and it's not so easy. Usually, I take 2 papers in one session!
Anyway, good luck!

anyone can be acca student member if u have a degree in any subject.

i am planning to read some books and do some pass paper then to take the exams.....

however, form the last replies of u guys, it seems their is no short cut to get in to the accounting professional.....i hav to do another degree......

because one of my mate (in the UK) who got an engineering degree and after finished 2 papers in acca(level 1)....he received few accounting interviews opportunities....i was only wondering if it will be the same in hk....

thanks for all your comments anyway....

Generally speaking, after finishing part I, you can perform standard accounting duties (say be Accounting Assisstant or Junior Accountant) - you already know what is equation concept & double-entry is,but still have more to learn - don't forget about experience!

if you ask me, its probably easier to make the real money in the capital markets of investment banks in hk than to make the accountancy money in banks..

if u want pay level of 500k hkd per year, then yes.

if u want pay level of 2~3mil hkd per year, then work in a bank wiht an engineering degree!

that's my opinion anyway...
