Best ways to save money How about we compile a list on how to easily save money in Hong Kong (didn't find anything like that through the search function)? Easy means... not running around and opening 10 bank accounts to enjoy a 0.05% higher interest rates. But, for example, which number to call for a taxi discount etc. Am looking forward to your answers! Thanks!

Just off the top of my head.... - discount taxi's - forward mobile# to work/hme line to maximize the min - use 1529 IDD to call overseas to most countries - buy meat and poultry from butcher (Not from grocery store) who delivers for free - buy vegetables and fruit from fruit veg market (aka wet market) and they too will deliver for free when requested! - buy fresh bread from local baker - use ceiling fans in bdrms and livingrm to help keep flat cool (limits the use of air conditoner) -- BIG SAVINGS SINCE DOING THIS LAST SPRING!!!!!! - use energy saving light bulbs - sign up for free VIP cards stores/resturants which tend to patronize - share list of numbers with friends and family - buy toiletries at BonJour, Angel and/or Fanda when possible - household curtains and bedding made in Shenzhen - buy household pots, pans and other kitchen utensils on Shanghai St KLN at resturant providers shops for better, longlasting quality

Set yourself a target. let say you earn 50.000 a month. You rent is 10.000 Your utilities are 1/1.5000 a month (if you are single) You spend around 2.000 week (4.5 week/months) for groceries, outings, resto....total 11.000 You travel a bit and plan of spending on average (if you split the cost monthly) 2.000/months You pay taxes 6.000/months Total cost around 32.000 (maybe less maybe more if you buy lots of clothes...) so every month when you receive your salary you just transfer 18.000 to another bank account where you have no ATM....that money you can save it, invest it..up to you

Easy Mat, Thanks for your answer. However, I wouldn't exactly define changing one's apartment/location as "easy". What I meant is what Alby already started. Keep it going...

- Take the tram instead of the taxi (when posible of course) - Eat local (not China Club local, really local local) - Local hair dresser (anyway who needs a 1.000 HKD hair cut), - Buy when stuffs are on sale (that is fairly easy here) - Eat in the nice resto at LUNCH time, it is way cheaper than at diner time (i.e. Petrus...) - Custom made your furniture in China - Make friend with rich ppl :-) .........
