Need Urgent advice - HK Visa issue

Hi all,

I previously held a job offer at a bank in HK + had my work permit approved and was about to start my job in mid-July. My particular concern about this job offer is the fact that this bank is being taken over and there will definitely be a lot of uncertainties + possible lay-offs. Nevertheless, I was going to just go for it and relocate to HK despite the uncertainties. Just for your info I am currently working for another investment bank in Thailand and have only worked here for six months straight out of Uni.

Anyway, I tried to resign from my current job 3 weeks ago...but my boss tabled a counter-offer that I couldn't refuse - to move me to HK with my current bank with more money and better relocation package than my other offer. So I have decided to take this new offer + turned down my other job offer.

My dilemma is the following:

- In order to arrange my move - my boss told my new boss in HK to approve my move for work/personal resasons without telling them that I was going to leave to join another firm.

- I am asked to fill out the work permit form again - even though I already have my work permit sticker from my other job offer.

- So what should I do without my current employer in the HK office knowing that I had another offer.

- Would there be problem with my work permit re-application. I have more or less decided to restart the work permit application again anyway.

- Even with my limited work experience, I am not too worried about being refused for work permit since I already had a work permit approved once + I am now applying as a permanent transfer to HK (which should be easier)

- My main concern is therefore to get the permit approved soonest without the people in HK office knowing that I have already received a work permit once already from another job offer.

Any advice would be totally appreciated...as I want to start my application asap.

visa

There are two ways for you,

1) come to Hong Kong use and activate your existing visa, go to your boss office and resign, after resign go to immigration department and change your visa to new company.

2) send your resignation now and apply new visa with new company. it will take 6 to 8 weeks for you to get new visa.

This will also take 3-4 weeks minimum. You can't just roll up at the office and say "change the name"; you have to go through a similar process to an initial application - your new sponsor has to show why they can't get a local for the job and so on.
