IB Associate salary ranges

Can anyone give me a sense of the typical associate-level salaries across various functional areas at a top tier investment bank? Assuming graduate degree, 4-6 years' experience, local terms.

Cassie will become famous soon enough
That's way too low. For an associate at a top tier IB working in front office you're looking at 800 - 900 HKD.

800-900 is abit stretch. if they want you very badly maybe.. but i think this market alot more supply than demand.. so a fresh entree looking at 500-650k associate level shld be quite good.

Salary

As far as I know pay is the HKD equivalent of what is also paid in the US. And in the US base salaries for 1st year Associates are 90-100k USD this year, i.e. should be around 700-780k HKD base. Bonus depends of course.

Hi Moving2HK,

Does 700-780k HKD include housing? I had an offer (1-yr Associate) from a MNC IB; however the base salary seems quite low (~400K HKD pa). They do offer housing on top of that; together it's about in the said range. Don't know if that's reasonable.

And i'm a local, not an expat or MBA - don't know if that makes any difference.

I agree with the 500 - 650 range..soemtimes a bit more sometime a bit less

800 - 900 is way to high and does not represent the AVERAGE...as asked by the OP...

Disagree. The question was about "top tier" firms. Unthinkable that anybody would get less than HKD700k plus housing as an associate in IBD/CorpFin at a bulge bracket.

what about capital market positions? same as IBD/Corp Fin?

HKD700k plus housing sounds quite high. i think Associates get ~HKD25k p.m. of housing allowance... so together it's HKD1m for a first year Associate?

Should not be too different - although a tough environment for capital markets people right now (actually for most I-bankers).
In any case, not much difference whether it is HKD800k or HKD1mn. Just the base pay after all - bonus all that matters (again, may be not so much this year...).
