Hi,

my friend just finished his 2 year working contract, so his visa is running out. However we will we setting up a company together next month. Based on that, how likely will he get an extension of his working visa?

Not at all. Employment Visas are linked to specific jobs. He would need to make apply for a transfer of sponsorship if he is planning to work for a different company.

That's fine as long as you can prove a local can not do the job or there is a big lack of locals trained to do it.

As besides that and everything you are going to need to prove finacially you can afford an expat, and have a proper contract with salary offered as well as sick days etc.

If you run a company and hire him you will need to fill out the work visa transfer forms, collect all his information and send in with proof you looked for locals (or locals are in a lack for this spot) (job ads etc) as well as company background/finacial information.
