Question visa dilemma - please help!

I have recently finished my degree and would like to go and work in Hong Kong for a while before I start my MIB in February. I’m lucky in that I have a contact in Hong Kong who is a CEO, and is willing to give me a business admin role. The trouble is I know for there are strict conditions for granting work permits and there is little to no chance of me being granted one for an admin job, which, frankly, isn’t even a real job but one created for me to get experience. What are my options then for getting over there and getting a few months experience? Am I able to go over there on the premise of a holiday for 90 days and spend it working? Is the working holiday visa an option? Are you able to do that for 3-5 months or does it have to be the 12 months?

Thanks in advance. Hope you can help, I’m desperate to get over there!!!

If you qualify for the working holiday visa (Aus, NZ or Irish passport and under the age limit) then I reckon that would be the best way. Otherwise possibly a training visa? If your friend is CEO of a multinational which employs expats then they should be able to work something out.

You can also consider applying for a training visa - and state it as you are doing an internship between studies to get ore hands on experience.

Thanks guys. In relation to holiday working visas, are you allowed to work full-time on these? I thought one of the conditions of the visa was you have to be going mainly for a holiday, which would be hard to justify seeing as I'd be in a 9 to 5 job!

Is there anywhere I can find more information on training visas in Hong Kong? I've searched the net but can't find anything.

Thanks again!

Thanks Knowitall. Do you think a training visa is the most appropriate for my situation then?

Yes! and you can even create a personal learning plan which will help you maximize your learning experience at the company. You may even consider sharing this with your potential boss and immigration - as it would be perceieved by immigration more as an appropriate internship which would qualify for a "training visa." Additionally since you are in HK for such a short time I would also suggest that in your leraning plan that you attempt to meet other people in the field for informational interviews - as this can only help you further as you develop your career and personal goals.
