Car free zones!

Hi!
I just discovered some areas in HK are car free as in NO PRIVATE VEHICLES! And that other areas / roads have restricted use. Can any one give me more info on what you can and can't do where in a car please?

Cars and Suburbs

BTW I posted this here because restrictions on private vehicles will affect my choice of area to live.

The only places I knowof that are car free are Cheung Chau, Lamma and prob. all other outlying Islands except Lantau which is connected by Tsing Ma bridge to Tsing Yi. Discovery Bay on Lantau is car free (except business vehicles) by authority of HKRI, the developer.

Are there any others? Park Island?

All of South Lantau is closed to private vehicles unless you have a permit. However, if you live there then it is straightforward to get such a permit. (http://www.td.gov.hk/FileManager/EN/...ev_7.2003_.pdf )

Discovery Bay and Park Island are closed to private vehicles.

There are no real roads on Lamma and Cheung Chau anyway, so they just have the mini-vehicles that run around for transporting goods etc.

thanks

Thank you! That's very helpful.
Any other roads / areas require permits like it is in London where you pay to use your car in central London?

As of yet there is no road pricing in HK except the tunnel and bridge tolls. However, road pricing is under discussion so that might change.
