Hi all

I used to climb some time ago and would love to get back into it again.

I'm 26M and looking for a devoted climber (the level doesn't really matter) who would want to climb 2 - 3 times a week. Probably one of the YMCA walls, maybe with some bouldering thrown in.

I don't want to go through the whole hassle of the assessment, buying gear, etc. and then end up without having anyone to climb with.

Raj, gunz, would you guys be up for it? Or anyone else?

Hello Rajeev

Sounds good.

Would you mind telling me what does the YMCA assessment involve/how strict it is? I'm just wondering whether I can pass it with my current knowledge or whether I'll have to go through the introductory class first.

Thanks a lot.

The assessment involves the basic class and climbing. It's nothing difficult, it's just basic climbing, belaying and falling techniques. the class is on Saturdays (I think) and takes 3 hours. I had never climbed before and passed it without any problems.

Cheers,
-Rajeev

Thanks a lot for the info, Rajeev. I will let you know once I've done it, so that we can start climbing.

hello. Tried outdoor rock climbing, but never tried indoor climbing before. I really want to give it a go also. Let me know if you still want to go....maybe we could get a small group together.

Have been climbing for 4 years, but haven't done so much in Hong Kong, how much does climbing at TST or wherever you go cost? Do count me in!

Hey Sparky

There's number of bouldering walls around HK and two biggish climbing walls - one indoors (YMCA in TST - frameset) and one outdoors (also run by YMCA in King's Park - YMCA King's Park Centenary Centre). Both cost around 80 HKD a visit, depending on whether you're an YMCA member or not. They also rent some equipment (GriGris, shoes, harnesses, etc.) for couple of dollars. However, to be allowed to climb there, you first have to do an assessment test (top roping for TST and lead climbing for King's Park).

Hope this helps. For more info about climbing situation in HK, go to Hong Kong Climbing.

By the way, everyone, I did my assessment last Saturday and have a free pass for this week, so if anyone wants to get together and climb, I'd be very happy.
