Legal age drinking in HK?

How old do you have to be in HK in order to drink alcohol? Do they ask for ID? If you're a tourist what do you show them?

Legal age I think is 18. But some bars/pubs have the limit at 21.

If you are a tourist and they ask for ID, you should show them your passport.

actually, the legal age to PURCHASE alcohol is 18. but as far as i'm aware of, there's actually no official drinking age.

i've never been carded in hong kong. but then again, i'm too old to get carded. lol. so i can't be sure of that.

Legal age to buy/be in a bar/pub/club is 18. Some places will require older, but they are pretty exclusive.

If you look young you may be carded. Rare, but it happens.

But, if someone buys you alcohol you are legally ok to drink it.

IFF it is a place that allows smoking. However, it is perfectly OK for anyone to be in an establishment that doesn't allow smoking. You need to be 18 to approach the bar or order alcohol, but an over-18 may order for you. In that case the over-18 doing the ordering has legal responsibility for the sobriety of the under-18, and the penalties are quite stiff.

As an example, a good friend of mine brought his jailbait 14 year old daughter to my engagement party at Bulldog's LKF (a non-smoking bar) recently. The bar manager was fine with this and with the fact that she had a couple of glasses of champagne... (her father had the legal responsibility, but whoever served/ordered her the alcohol if he hadn't been there).
