Attention shoppers:

Ok shopping mavens, this should be a breeze (for me especially if you are kind enough to take the time to answer!).What are the best places to get the following in terms of variety, price, convenience:

1. Household supplies like paper towels, cleaning products, plastic/glass containers, basic cutlery.

2. Groceries for when you first move in and need lots of basic stuff. Any good ones that deliver?

3. Toddler clothing and shoes.

4. Pet supplies (pref with home delivery service).

5. which IKEA location has best stock/variety or are they all the same?

6. Mac products

7. Cell phone service

I would be so thrilled to get this info now, just ahead of our move. Thanks!

Darn, I thought from the title this was going to have some good deals listed.

Oh well, here's some tips you will hopefully find useful:
1) Japan Home Center or Pricerite, if you are not too picky on top quality and branded items, has loads of basics
2) The most common are Wellcome and ParknShop, most offer delivery services now, but may depend on your particular location
3-4) Sorry, no idea!
5) I've had several instances at the Causeway Bay location where items were out-of-stock, but its location is convenient if you are on HK side. The Shatin store is the largest I believe, but they've just opened one in Kowloon Bay that I've not visited. Otherwise the Prince Edward one may fare slightly better than CWB in terms of stock availabillity.

6) Mac store in Central and several scattered in the computer malls, where prices tend to be slightly cheaper

7) Offers are changing all the time, you can shop for the best deal when you get here.

Welcome!

Hi, for your 3-4, try Time square the 8/9/10th? floor for children, and CitySuper at the basement respectively.

1. Agree with Fly, Japan Home Centre or the other fixed price oddment stores if you're not too picky.
2. Wellcome and Park N'Shop...can't get any easier than those 2
3. Try GeoBaby.com.......
4. Go to Victory Avenue in Ho Man Tin in Kowloon, they have loads of pet stores, vets, and also stores that sell pet supplies.
5. Non-availability shouldn't be an issue, just ask staff if they can give you details about the products you're looking for. Either they'll tell you which branch to go to if you need one immediately, or you could reserve/order one.
6. Wanchai Computer Centre (obviously in Wanchai), Golden Computer Centre in Shamshuipo, and Mong Kok Computer Centre (in Mong Kok).
7. Again as Fly mentioned, offers change all the time. Though 3 (formerly known as Orange) seems to have the largest user base. 1010 from CSL (or so I've been told) is excellent in terms of service and network quality.

hope that helps....welcome to hk, tex!
