forum questions from a newbie

What is the deal w/ the little icon next to ppl's names that says 'so-and-so is an unknown quantity at this point'? I noticed that some ppl who have posted more than 60 times still have that icon...

Also, why can't I get my sig to stick? I edited it, previewed it + saved it, but it doesn't appear on my forum posts and I don't see any options anywhere to turn it on or off.

Thanks!

Sigs are turned off. Its the easiest way for us to prevent driveby spamming.

We also discourage people from posting URLs, unless they are genuine resources.

The "unknown quantity" icon can be changed by giving people "reputation". You can give someone or take away from their reputation by clicking on the "scales" icon.

Hm, so ppl can click to my homepage via my profile or the dropdown menu from my name, but I can't actually type it in a forum post?

As it is with any person in authority, rules don't apply. Do I forsee a 'regime change' here?...
