| Where to go for live music? Hey there, I'm visiting relatives here for the next few days and I'm looking for some venues for live music, preferably classic or alternative rock or blues. I'm staying at Mid Levels but can get around if necessary. I'm HK born but raised in US and actually play in a classic rock cover band so I'd like to check out how the scene is in HK. Probably going by myself but if anyone would like to join me that'd be welcome too! Raybies |

| Hey there! Check out the Fringe Club and also the listings in BC magazine and HK Magazine - loads of live music happening. This is the best one in July - Very Ape's CD launch - if you're still in HK, check it out!! Chris B ========================================= Launch Info: Friday 20 July @ Fringe Club 10:30pm $90 (including one drink) Very Ape appearing with support acts; The Train & 22cats Live Review from Underground 35: Make no mistake, Very Ape are a very heavy, a very loud, but at the same time a very melodic band. These four Japanese musicians are quite possibly insane, and one of their instrumentals lasted longer than some other bands' whole songs, but they didn't lose the crowd for one second. Their rock has an almost jazz-like quality that takes a heavy sound and makes it so much more likable and accessible than a lot of other music out there. Their additively groovy rhythms had everyone on their feet and (almost) dancing - by 'everyone' I mean the crowd, bar staff, even the photographer! It's a good thing that they were on last because it would be hard to find a band in Hong Kong who could have followed Very Ape at Underground 35 BIOGRAPHY: The explosive Very Ape have been a favourite on the Asian music scene since 1998, from winning the second prize and best guitarist at the Gold Coast Monmortre Band Festival 2000 to playing at Rockit 2004 to first runner up at the HK World Battle of the Bands 2005. Having played Formoz and Spring Scream in Taiwan a total of 8 times in the last five years!. Their heavy and noisy music has an underlying groove which keeps you captivated. These four Japanese musicians have their hearts and musical pulses on creating and performingoriginal songs. This is the launch of their debut CD! | Ok, easy answer is Insomnia in LKF. They have live cover bands every Friday and Saturday night, usually are pretty good. I usually end up there at least one night on any given weekend. If you are feeling a bit more adventurous, you can go to Dusk Til Dawn in Wan Chai, but it is a bit shadier over in that neck of the woods. There are a few other places out there that supposedly have good cover bands (Amazonia, The Wanch, etc), but I haven't been. I can apprecaite the need for live music out here... I am also from the US and was in a a few bands over the years. |
