>> flip through the many magazines I see on the stand, but too bad

nevermind, i undertsand all these magazines,
most of them are half-true or even untrue stories and gossips,
i do not waste time to read them even i understand.
But it is hard on someone's entertainment needs.

My main concern is whether I will be able to get + keep a job w/ my VERY limited Cantonese and zero Mandarin ability. Guess I'll have to find a co where there are a lot of Westerners...

There are many ABC BBC here in HK. They’re fine even they speak Chinese just enough to say hi to others. Talking about workplaces, if you’re being hired by US-/UK-/any other European based companies, there won’t be a problem. Most of these companies will request staff from clerk to GM/CEO... be ‘good command of’ or proficient in English. There are always 5/5 Chinese and foreigners at mid- to top-management levels. Good luck.

stanyee...

well maybe you can take some cantonese or mandarin course in your spare time...

I took Mandarin last year for one whole year...and my Mandarin is way better than my Cantonese...which is funny coz I was born in HK..and not China or Taiwan...

Mandarin is not too difficult to learn..coz they have a pronouciation system that uses the alphabet...

Good luck to u...I dont think it will be too hard for you to get a job! =)
