I also work in a field that brings me into contact with the concrete test labs here in HK, and there have been in the past numerous cases of malfeasance where the labs were switching concrete samples to fake the results. So don't jump down my throat for pointing out an unpleasant truth, just cuz you want to pretend this is "a world class city" free from the bs that happens elsewhere. I know the shit that gets pulled in the construction industry here, so I think ya, I can substantiate.

I don't see how a problem with piling in 1999 substantiates your accusation against the Director of the Skyrail project?

I wasn't levelling an accusation against the director of skyrail, i was saying I'm not surprised it happened, as in Asia in general its not uncommon for a senior person on the "construction" project to take short cuts. Last edited by sylvesterjay; 12-06-2007 at 10:18 AM.

The tourism here has taken so much of a beating in recent months that all we need to happen now is a scandal involving Mickey Mouse and Daisy Duck at Disneyland.

Personally, I never ride aerial cable cars. No, I will not ride the Ping Pong 360. But I enjoy visiting the Big Buddha, and buses work fine from Mui Wo. Hong Kong is headed in the wrong direction, thinking tourist can pay all its bills. Disney will fold up and move out just as soon as they open a park in mainland China.

But what does this have to do with cable cars? How are you so sure that this accident involved corruption? Perhaps you have some insider scoope that nobody knows about...but accidents do happen....there was a roller coaster accident happened in Osaka (one dead - I think) two months ago. I'll give you an example - accidents happen ALL THE TIME at various six flags locations across the US. You don't know about them because amusement parks in the US are not obliged to inform people about any accidents even involving deaths. Amusement parks in the US have a certain immunity from federal law regulations - don't you think that is corruption too? Nobody is denying that there is a huge amount of corruption in Asia, but what it has got to do with this particular incident? Why are you so angry? You seem to jump on any chances that could bash HK or Asia. |

I hated that cable car even when I thought it was safe! The day we went on it in September last year, it closed for 1 hour after we'd bought our tickets due to high winds... as we'd bought our tickets we stayed in line.. it eventually re-opened and things were fine. But on the way back.. the winds picked up again - that cable car was swinging so bad and I was soooo scared!! I already said after that visit that I won't go on that again. If I go to the Big Budda again I'll be taking the bus.

They never said they were sure it involved corruption, just implied it may have due to precedents, and then quoted a couple. Can't see why everyone is jumping down this poster's throat.
