skype and mobile phone

Hi,

I have a skype acc and unfortunately, I can't install skype on my company laptop.

I was thinking of getting a blackberry or PDA phone and install Skype on it.

Anyone has similar experience, a better suggestion or can give me any information regarding this?

Thanks!

Could you not run Skype from an external hard drive that you connect to your company laptop? Maybe one of the techies can confirm if this is feasable...

company runs a spider software on all computers and it will check for any 'banned' software or program in the system.

so unless i can use the skype without installing it..... is that possible?

cos thatz what I did for my msn.. moved it out of the program files folder and uninstalled it. but run the program still.. can that be done for skype too?

FWIW, new Nokia S60 phones such as N95, E61i etc. can run application called Fring which allows you to use Skype over data connection (WLAN/3G) on your mobile phone - note though that it hardly makes sense to use it over variable data rates, unless you have a fixed 3G data plan you should use it over WLAN only.

On your PC, most likely you still cannot use Skype even if you reinstall the application under My Documents instead of Program Files - Skype uses some kind of P2P protocol for transfering data and that type of data connection is most likely blocked while connected to company network.

Think the ports used by most chat software are blocked by network adMINIstrators. When I used to own an O2 Atom I ran Skype with no problems. So get yourself a current pda running WM5 and you'll be laughing (at those admins).
