cost for maid/nanny? Can anyone tell me what we would expect to pay for a Filipina maid / nanny per month? We are moving to HK in September and plan to live around Clearwater Bay in a house with garden. We have a 3 year old and 6 month old, so we would need someone with experience with kids. Do they mostly work 6 days? Is babysitting included in the price? What do we have to pay or provide for them apart from their monthly salary? Thanks! Kate.

logans, if you are looking for a western nanny, it will cost you over hk$30,000 per month. I think they work 5 days a week and 9-10 hours a day.

Thanks but we actually want a Filipina nanny. Is approx $4000 inclusive of 6 days and babysitting? Do we have to pay a ticket home for them as well?

It is inclusive of 6 days of babysitting. But, some of the best helper/nannies who have experience with Western families charge slightly more. You can always find a helper who is willing to work for the minimum wage though. Our helper is wonderful and we pay her more than minimum. It seems almost like slave labor to pay someone less than 500USD per month to work the number of hours helpers do, expecially if they are looking after kids/ pets in addition to keeping the house clean. You do have to pay for their trip home. You also have to either provide health insurance or pay their medical bills if they get sick. There are other expenses involved as well. Look at the standard helper contract on the HK Immigration web site for an idea of the total expenses. Last edited by hello_there; 06-06-2007 at 01:27 PM.

Yes inclusive, although you can pay more if you want to... that's totally up to you. Some families pay 5000. I believe you owe them one ticket home a year. And I understand that if you don't want them to eat what's in your fridge, you need to give them a food allowance.

logans Nannies are professionally trained to deal with babies and/or kids, so my advise is that you check their qualification and experience as well as price.

Minimum wage is $34xx and you give them a ticket home at the end of the 2 year contract. Some expats who go home for Xmas and the summer also send their helpers home, but this is entirely up to you.
