There's always the Sai Kung Hotel- probably work out just as cheap as a serviced apt and close as anything to SK.
Don't bother with Gold Coast (which is on the delta of the Pearl River coming straight down from China!) you will find oodles of places in or near Sai Kung.

Sai Kung Hotel been shut for years.

As far as aware there is no short term accomodation available in Sai Kung - been looking several times over last year or 2 for when relatives come to stay.

Even had the editor of the local rag (ExploreSaikung) looking out for us but nothing found.

Odd- when we went up to SK a few weeks ago the real estate agent was saying that it was open- on the right hand side next to the roundabout just when you leave Sai Kung town towards the country park?

Old Beach Hotel - used to have a giant Lobster on the wall?

Been closed for as long as I remember - still has some food places and a bar, also watersports on the beach but the hotel part is closed (unless finanly opened in last month but thought would have heard - and still looked like a shell last time I looked).

Long story involving a guy who bought a lot of SK during SARS with big plans and then has done nowt with any of it...

Sha Tin itself or Sha Tin District. I suspect Sha Tin itself which could be tough for someone new to Hong Kong.

Are you driving? If not go for the island around North Point right now. Get used to there and look for places closer in first. Do not go to Sha Tin if you plan on using public transport as it could be a little complicated to get used to going to Sha Tin.

There are serviced apartments in Ma On Shan called Horizon Suites, they'll be closer to Sai Kung than Sha Tin where it's just a hotel.

Other than that ther are NO short term accommodation options in Sai Kung. (Have lived in SK for 6 years)

Shatin takes an hour by bus from Sai Kung.

If driving then a lot quicker.

Ma on Shan is on way to Shatin - about half way.
Think if can get into accomodation mentioned in prev post then that might be best place to start....

Right, I was back up there yesterday and the real estate agent said it has been dormant for a few years but has just been bought by New World and will be developed into an 8 storey hotel/furnished apartment resort.
She also confirmed that there are no hotels or furnished apartments in Sai Kung itself.
