| Library rules Yesterday I had to prepare for a presentation in Causeway Bay and my girlfriend, who is a university student, had to prepare for a final exam. So I suggested that we meet at the HK Central Library for a couple hours to get something done. After 20 minutes, one of the patrolling employees told her that she is
not allowed to study at her desk. Sure enough, there was a sign stating that "reading areas are reserved for readers using library materials only." She had committed the offense of studying her own economics notes and had to give up the desk.
I can see why they might want to reserve desks for the use of library materials. But if you look around the place, at least half the people occupying desks seem to be retired/unemployed men scanning the local tabloids for photos of women in skimpy outfits. Isn't it better use of a desk for a student to prepare for an exam?
