get a pet export company to help you. they charge fees, but the reduction in headaches is well worth it. the $ you save doing it all yourself you lose through time and anxiety. on top of the freight costs, and the costs of the crate, permits, paperwork etc, the moving company does not make a great deal when you think of the time and effort involved, despite what the cynics say. the moving companies are up to date with the latest import/export requirements, and are familair with the idiosyncrasies of each port.
most companies have co-operative companies that can act as agents on either side of the export, which makes applying for, and picking up permits and paper work much easier.
no, i don't work for a pet moving company. i have exported my dog and cat into HK from Oz, and I am in the process of moving them back out. I have sussed out the market, and for my peace of mind, the fee the moving comany gets is bugger all.
Hope this helps
