Day Trading

Looking for info from and about full time day trading on HKSE.

Specifics - online brokerage and software, commision rates on low value trades . Bid and Ask. Short selling possiblities, margin accounts also for when the market turns. Also good intel sites in English.

I have been dealing part time on the phone as an exercise but as I know have more time on my hands I want to do it more reactive and hands on.

Any info would be good at this time. Present commision structures I have seen appear mainly at the " traditional " investor and would like to see if any speacalists have not appeared on my radar.

HK_Newbie100 will become famous soon enough
First off, you need to get yourself an online platform as phone brokerage is for the most part completely unsuited for day trading – too much slippage relative to intra day profits. Imo, you can’t go far wrong with www.interactivebrokers.com , a top tier US brokerage with by far the lowest commissions. They also have UK and Canadian operations, depending where you’re from. They have the full range of HK stocks but they are not shortable. But your single IB account allows you access to any other market and instrument (futures, options, warrants etc) in the world that they cover.

Secondly, if you want to day trade, you will need an online real time data feed. There are two components to a data feed. One is the data feed itself, the raw data that comes through, and two, how you want that data represented, usually in chart format. There are plenty of fancy charting software out there such as Tradestation and Metastock, but you have to buy them separate to the data feed. For most users needs, I would recommnend www.esignal.com . They offer an integrated package and I find their charting software way more than adequate, and so they offer the best value.

Thirdly, day trading is all about technical analysis. Imo, and it’s just an opinion, simple trend following with no fancy whistles is the easiest and most profitable way to trade.

Good luck in your trading.

Your thoughts are mine also, hence my posting. I see the weakness in the position at present and need info specific for the HK market as I want to cut my teeth locally and then maybe in the future move out to other markets.

I will check out the things you said but in the meantime would welcome input from those who are operating within the environment I have targetted . Local.
